People Make Glasgow
Scotland’s largest city was once the beating heart of the Industrial Revolution, known throughout the world for its enormous shipyards and steel mills, and for the huge wealth of its merchants and bankers. Today the city has reinvented itself as a cultural epicentre and magnet for creatives, famous for its legendary entertainment scene, stunning architecture, and world-class shopping.
CITY CENTRE
Glasgow’s Modern Heart
From the stylish Merchant City with its annual festival, to the bustling shopping destinations of Buchanan Street and the famous Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow is packed full of high-end shops, lively bars and music venues, eclectic restaurants and more.

WEST END
Bohemian Chic
Centred around the historic Glasgow University, the West End of Glasgow is renowned for its relaxed atmosphere, quirky cobbled streets and amazing food scene. Explore the shops and eateries of trendy Byres Road or Ashton Lane, visit the University’s Hunterian museum or enjoy the best in live entertainment at the famous Oran Mor venue.

HISTORIC HIGH STREET
‘Let Glasgow Flourish’
Long before the steel mills and shipyards, Glasgow has its origins as a religious community founded by St Mungo on the River Clyde. The historic High Street leads from the waterfront to the imposing cathedral, the oldest building in the city. Visit the St Mungo Museum of Religious Life, or Provand’s Lordship, a museum built into the city’s oldest surviving house.

WATERFRONT
21st Century Reinvention
Once one of the world’s busiest centres of shipbuilding and global trade, Glasgow owes its existence to the River Clyde.
The waterfront is now home to some of the city’s premier visitor attractions, including the Glasgow Science Centre, the stunning Riverside Museum and the SSE Hydro, one of the world’s leading music venues.

ART SCENE
Glasgow Style
From the radical invention of the 19th Century Glasgow Boys and the architecture and design of native son Charles Rennie Mackintosh, to the public art of the city’s modern Mural Trail, Glasgow has a justified reputation as a centre of the visual arts.
Visit the Gallery of Modern Art or the world-class Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, or venture further afield to Mackintosh’s House For An Art Lover in Bellahouston Park. Follow the Mural Trail through the city centre, or simply wander amongst the stunning architecture of the Merchant City and beyond.

KELVINGROVE
A Dear Green Place
To the west of the Merchant City is Kelvingrove, an extensive area of parkland straddling the banks of the picturesque River Kelvin. Once the venue for Great Exhibitions, the park is home to the world-renowned Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, one of Scotland’s most popular free attractions, featuring everything from Salvador Dali’s ‘Christ of St John on the Cross’ to an intact Spitfire fighter plane.
